DOB Moves Boiler Compliance Filings to DOB NOW: Safety
The New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) is expanding its online system, DOB NOW, to include Boiler Compliance Filings. This change goes into effect on August 14, 2017. Here’s what you need to know.
Critical Dates for Boiler Compliance Filings
July 29, 2017
To prepare for this change, DOB will no longer accept 2017 Boiler Inspection Cycle compliance filings in person or via mail as of July 29, 2017. This applies to disk filing submissions.
August 14, 2017
- All Boiler Compliance Filings for the 2017 Boiler Inspection Cycle must be submitted online through DOB NOW: Safety.
- DOB will continue to accept 2016 Boiler Inspection Cycle compliance filings in person or via mail through December 31, 2017. This also applies to disk filing submissions.
Transition: July 29–August 13
For owners who have a filing due during the transition between July 29 and August, filings must be submitted before July 29.
Boiler Inspections
New York City requires annual inspections of low-pressure boilers in the following building types:
- Residential buildings with 6 or more families
- Residential buildings classified as Single Room Occupancy (SRO) dwellings
- Mixed-use buildings
- Commercial buildings
Inspections must be performed by authorized boiler inspectors licensed by the DOB or an authorized insurance company. Building owners can request a free boiler inspection from their insurance companies, if available.
